Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

Neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), also known as an intensive care nursery (ICN), is an intensive care unit specializing in the care of ill or premature newborn infants. Neonatal refers to the first 28 days of baby’s life. A NICU is commonly coordinated by at least one Neonatologist and staffed by medical attendants, drug specialists, practitioners, nurture professionals, Pharmacists, physician assistants, physicians, respiratory therapists, and dietitians. Neonatal nurse practitioners are advanced practice nurses care for premature babies and sick newborns in intensive care units, emergency rooms, delivery rooms. Prematurity is a hazard factor that pursues early labour, an arranged cesarean area or Pre-eclampsia
